Barack Obama is smart. He’s thoughtful. He inspires respect in his Senate colleagues, is completely capable of negotiating with people with whom he disagrees. He is curious about the world around him. And even if one does not completely agree with the policies he has laid out, it is impossible to ignore the fact that he thinks about the issues before deciding what policies to pursue. Calm, solid, stable, imaginative, resourceful, cooperative, and inspiring. Those are the sort of leadership qualities we need right now.
John McCain is a maverick. He claims to want to go his own way. He cashed in on the influence and reputation of his family to get into Annapolis. He is arrogant and angry and prone to violent verbal and physical outbursts. He isn’t curious, doesn’t understand the issues we are facing, and thinks that war is the answer to our problems in the Middle East and other areas around the world. With our military spread dangerously thin, the morale of our troops at a pretty historic low, our economy teetering, and the divisions among our citizenry healing in some spots, yet flaring up in others, his style of “leadership” – angry, arrogant, and ignorant – is the furthest thing from helpful that we could possibly want right now.
Imagine you are suffering from a great illness. Who do you want treating you? The guy who graduated top of his class, who studied hard, or the party boy with a gambling habit? This is the choice we face.
Search your hearts and find your deep center. Open your mind to the possibilities of a new dawn. Vote Barack Obama for President of the United States.
