Dominionism and Sarah Palin

Dominionism is the philosophy of various conservative christian groups to use political (and military if needed) action to turn the United States (and Canada, and Europe) into christian theologies.   They believe in the supremacy of their particularly calvinist view of christianity, consider other religions (and even other forms of christianity) to be false or lesser, and believe that they alone should be the arbiters of morality and holders of political power, to take control of the secular society that is out of control and sinful.

The use of theonomy, that is god’s law, over the secular institutions of government, is one of the goals of the christian reconstructionists.  Reconstructionalism is one of the most militant yet intellectually rigorous forms of Dominionism.

The idea here is to force old testament law onto all aspects of society; to criminalize personal behavior; and to create a government that is utterly divorced from it’s Enlightenment roots.  Most dominionists do not believe that the founding of the United States was as anything other than as a christian nation,  and history and the Constitution be damned.

One of the strategies employed by the christian reconstructionists is to put people into stealth mode – that is, send them out into the world to pretend to be more secular than they actually are in order to secure power.  Sarah Palin is a perfect example of this;  a member of a church of an extreme sect of christianity until 2002 (although she still is deeply involved with the church), she joined a more mainstream, non-demoninational church then.  Although, to be honest, the extreme views of this new church are just as bad as the old one.

This same tactic has been happening at the Pentagon and throughout the armed services.  It has been happening in school boards across the country (Dover, Pennsylvania, anyone?)

Mrs. Palin belongs to this school of thought.  She is a dangerous extremist who would be only a heartbeat away from the most powerful office in the country.  Her views on abortion, same-sex relationships, evolution, global warming, environmental stewardship, and so much more, are just not in step with the rest rest of the country, and indeed, the rest of the world.

John Sidney McCain, III, by picking Sarah Palin to be his running mate, has put this country in one of the most dangerous positions we have seen in decades.  He is old, has a deadly form of skin cancer (which has recurred four times so far!), and problems with his lymphatic system as well (his facial puffiness is related to that).  And yes, his aged mother is in her late 90s, but the office of the President of the United States is probably the most stressful job in the world, and we all know how stress creates conditions ripe for unhealthy body responses.

Do we really want a President Palin?  Her religion is contemptible and frightening, both at the same time.   We cannot ignore that she has acted both corruptly (seeking the firing of a public employee who divorced her sister), and tried to put her religious beliefs in law (she was for banning same-sex state employee benefits before she was against it; trying to ban books and firing the local chief librarian; firing others who defied her corrupt motives for personal gain and theological ideas).  Want a good list of the most important scandals?  Common Mistakes provides a good list here.

My worst fear is that if McCain is elected, he’ll be assassinated by someone in the Reconstructionist movement in order to install Palin as president.  That thought is chilling, and ought to be to you, too.  Yes, I have no evidence of this whatsoever, but the thought persists in my brain.
