An induced labor for a 20 week fetus is an abortion.  The baby, infected and fatally deformed, would not have survived.

In the fall of 1996, Rick Santorum, 39, became the leader of the anti-partial-birth forces in the Senate. It’s a role that placed him at the center of what soon became a very emotional, and personal, maelstrom. His wife Karen was at that time 18 weeks pregnant and they were concerned about the health of the fetus. When they went for a routine 5-month sonogram, they discovered that their baby was suffering from a minuscule but almost invariably fatal condition; the baby’s posterior urethral valve was malfunctioning and his bladder wasn’t emptying. The Santorums went to Philadelphia to undergo a procedure where a plastic shunt was inserted into the baby’s bladder and used to channel the fetal urine into the womb. Initially the outcome looked good, but Karen soon suffered an infection from the operation, and she went into premature labor. The Santorums decided against aborting their baby. For Rick and Karen Santorum, the birth of their premature son, Gabriel Michael, on October 11, 1996, confirmed their beliefs about partial-birth abortion; the idea that the state might condone violence against this tiny but undeniably human creature seemed impossibly barbaric. Their baby died 2 hours after birth.

Even though I am of the opinion that Rick “Frothy Mix” Santorum is actively evil, I do feel badly that his family had to suffer and make such a terrible choice.  But his hypocrisy on this issue in inexcusable.

This is yet another example of how the GOP doesn’t care about the lives of ordinary people, just the privileged few.  If you’re rich, white, christian, or a corporation, then the GOP is all for you.  Watch out if you’re a woman, gay, black, poor, or any other non-privileged group.

Fiorina’s position puts her at odds with the majority of California voters. Last year, two-thirds of Californians said they opposed overturning Roe vs. Wade, according to a poll by the Public Policy Institute of California. Among independents — who would be critical to Fiorina’s bid to defeat Boxer since Democrats outnumber Republicans in California — only 28% said they favored completely overturning the 1973 decision.

During an interview from Washington on Tuesday, Boxer said Fiorina’s position on abortion was out of step with most voters. “She wants to make it a crime, and that would mean women and doctors in jail,” Boxer said. “That is so out of touch with Californians.”

The Failed-CEO Fiorina wants to get into your womb and force you to have a baby, ladies, regardless of what you know is best for yourself.

John McCain thinks that the health of the mother is meaningless.

Based upon his Congressional record, here’s what a John McCain women’s health clinic would look like:

That’s right:

• No prescription birth control
• Abstinence-only Sex Education
• No Abortion

These views are extreme and far outside the mainstream thought on this important issue.  But that’s the Maverick McCain for you.

What kind of world do we want for our children?  Do we want the sort of world where 10 year old girls are raped and then forced to give birth?  If John McCain has his way and Roe v. Wade is overturned, we’ll have more stories like this.

Of course, you may say, we already have this sort of world.  The mother of the raped child withheld prenatal care for her 10 year old daughter because she was protecting her boyfriend and herself from criminal charges.

We’ll a whole lot more of these child-mothers if John McCain has his way and makes illegal abortion, even in the case of rape and incest.

Just like their muslim counterparts, the Palinban are the anti-science, anti-freedom group of christian literalists.

If Palin were President, she’d be gunning to replace the Supreme Court with even farther-right-wing judges than Bush. No abortion under any circumstance, including rape and incest. She did make a minor concession in the case of saving the life of the mother, but according to Anchorage Daily News

The candidates were pressed on their stances on abortion and were even asked what they would do if their own daughters were raped and became pregnant.

Palin said she would support abortion only if the mother’s life was in danger. When it came to her daughter, she said, “I would choose life.”

Yet another example of Palin’s extreme views which are at odds with the mainstream American view on abortion.

Palin is a Christian Reconstructionist, which are the American Taliban – they believe in a particularly literal theonomy, the idea that the law of god should take precedence over secular law in the social order. This view is widely at odds with the vast majority of Americans.
